Most of the time, but not always. Most wineries in the Napa Valley now charge for a tasting, and the prices have been going up sharply in recent years. Some now cost more than $50 and involve several expensive wines. Fortunately a few, such as Heitz, are still free, although you won't get its best wines. Sometimes when you pay for a tasting, the person pouring the wine might pull out a special one to sample as a bonus.
