October celebrated as Texas Wine Month

The state of Texas has designated October as TEXAS WINE MONTH. Lots of celebrations throughout the month will celebrate Texas wine.
The state of Texas has designated October as TEXAS WINE MONTH. Lots of celebrations throughout the month will celebrate Texas wine. For more information on these events, see UPCOMING EVENTS later in this article.Texas is fast becoming recognized as a state which produces quality wines. Internationally acclaimed wine book author, George Taber, told a capacity crowd at the kick-off gala for the “Culture of Wine” at the George Bush Library at Texas A&M University that “Texas can grow grapes and produce wines at the same quality levels as California during the 1970s when California beat out the French in the famous tasting of 1976.”
Last Saturday’s Historic Montgomery Wine Festival show-cased 20 Texas wineries with numerous accolades provided by patrons for the quality wines served at this event. Whether you like a sweet wine (Bernhardt Schrock – a German-style Riesling) or a big classic wine (Sunset Cabernet Sauvignon), the variety in Texas wines is there. When you go to a Texas restaurant, ask for a Texas wine. If they do not serve Texas wines, ask the manager why a Texas wine is not served in a Texas restaurant. Don’t forget that local foods pair best with local wines. When you go to your favorite wine shop, ask for a Texas wine. If they do not sell Texas wines, ask them why a Texas wine shop does not sell Texas wines. Texans should be proud of their Texas wines. We should demand our Texas stores sell Texas wines!

My tasting group participated in a blind tasting of Texan wines last year. And very impressive they were too!
